“Dead, living, free, or in prison on the orders of the colonialists, it is not I who counts. It is the Congo, it is our people for whom independence has been transformed into a cage where we are regarded from the outside… History will one day have its say, but it will not be the history that Brussels, Paris, Washington, or the United Nations will teach, but that which they will teach in the countries emancipated from colonialism and its puppets… a history of glory and dignity.”

Patrice Lumumba, Congolese Anti-Colonial Leader
Assassinated by the CIA and Belgium, January 17, 1961

This morning I decided that I was going for a mussel hunt, so I woke up really early (like 9:30….it’s kind of early I guess) I took my trench coat with me and an old pair of flip flops and began my journey. The water was probably around -34 452° C but because the wind was blowing really hard and it was really cold, it almost felt nice and warm, just like at Cuba…naaah just kidding, it was still cold as hell. Anyways, I first went on the beach: Big mistake, there was absolutely nothing axcept for a group of old people in mini shorts and t-shirt (Do I have to remind you that I was a coat and a warm jogging pants?) Ya so apparently old people are super resistent up here. Finally, I just decided to go on a rocky shore just down the condo where I’m staying and a Miracle happened: there were litteraly 3 colonies of those little creatures. So I filled a bag with them, I dirtied my feet, I cut myself with one of them and I went back home. We oppenned them, cooked them, my dad ate all of them. I couldn’t even try one because it made me sick. Just seeing them on the plate reminded me of the discusting odor or raw meet. I couldn’t bare it…But still it was really nice and it made me realise something; Seefood is only good in restaurants

Spending some time by the sea. It’s so quiet in here it’s almost scary (in comparaison with vibrating Montreal). Whatever its still nice and fun and everyone is extremely nice and warm, We were actually really suprise to see that everybody says Hi to everyone without even knowing them….
